Jump Rope for Heart

Forty-six students raised $1,374.46 to help fund education and research for the American Heart Association in Oregon. The top 3 student fundraisers were Brody S.

room 17 ($165), Noah S.- room 15 ($155), and Efrain A.- room 2 ($150). The top 2 students earned a free ticket and the chance to show off their jump rope skills on center court during half-time at an upcoming Trail Blazers game on April 13th! A BIG RASCAL THANK YOU again to all of the students who jumped rope during PE class, and to the parents and families who helped sponsor this event to make it one of our best ever!

The Awesome 3000 is Coming!

Entry forms are being sent home the first week of April for the 32nd Annual Awesome

3000 on Saturday, May 3rd. Last year we had 80 students (K-5) participate in the Awesome! Grades K-2 run 1500 meters (8 laps around our school track) and grades 3-5 run 2000 meters (10 laps around Rascal Track). The early registration deadline is

April 19. The entry fee is $20 per child. The entry fee includes an Awesome t-shirt, insurance, and a medallion. Every student who crosses the finish line receives a well earned medal. Scholarships are available if you qualify: parents can register their child at a reduced fee of $10 by bringing their filled out entry form to the school office for approval. The school office will not mail entry forms in for students.

*Radio Disney is offering a special Awesome incentive for schools again this year. The Salem school that has the most students sign-up for the Awesome 3000 based on their school size, will be awarded a Funtastic Field Day sponsored by Radio Disney! Our

school goal this year is to have at least 100 students sign-up for the Awesome.

Don’t forget to pick up your “Awesome Shoe” in P.E. class once you have signed up. Go Awesome Rascals!

Country Kids Relays

The 40th Annual Country Kids Relays is coming also in May! The date is Saturday, May 10th at McCulloch Stadium/Bush Park. Students in grades 3-5th have the chance to qualify in P.E. class during early April to be on one of three 4 X 100 meter grade level relay teams. Each grade level has 3 teams: boys, girls, and co-ed with 4 runners on each team. Parent coaches for each grade level are needed, so if your child qualifies for a team, you can help out by being a grade level coach! A big Rascal welcome and thank you to our new parent Head Coach, Amy Desmond.

Run your best Rascals!

Walk + Bike to School Challenge

We are once again taking part in the Walk + Bike to School Challenge during the month of May. This statewide event is a friendly competition that encourages students to walk and bike to school starting Thursday, May 1. If you can’t walk or bike to school, then go for a walk or ride your bike after school in your neighborhood with a family member or friend. Be an Active Rascal by walking or biking!

First Tee Golf Program

Students in grades 1-5th will be participating in The First Tee National School Golf Program in their PE class during April. The First Tee’s focus is to give young people an opportunity to develop the nine life-enhancing core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment through the game of golf and character education. Our school is very fortunate to offer this exciting and educational golf program due to the generosity of some Salem area benefactors. Let’s play golf Rascals!
